We catch up with the guys over at Duck Worth Overland, they are building the Aerover. The Aerover is a Land Rover campervan with an aircraft-inspired camper body.
Using the iconic Land Rover Defender as a base and combining it with a habitation pod inspired by a classic American aero-style trailer, they are creating a beautiful and versatile overland camper. Choosing Exmoor Trim for their interior, they have opted for the popular Harris Tweed design. We ask a few questions about their build and their love for Land Rovers…
Why did you choose the Land Rover as a underpinnings for the project?
I choose the Land Rover Defender as the platform because it’s such an iconic vehicle we wanted the Habitation Pod to have some style and we need the Base Vehicle have as much stlye
Why this particular model?
We wanted the a Defender 130 for the rugged styling as well as the modifications as well as the length so we could have as much space inside the Habitation pod.
What powertrain are you using?
We are running the TD5 for MK1 one but we want to build all sorts of different plants
Previous land rover experience?
I first Drove a Defender with my first job putting up marquees. I then when I moved on to Restoring classic cars I worked on many builds but also on a full restations of a Series 3 Land Rover and loads of other work on Series and Defenders.
How did you come across Exmoor Trim?
I had known about Exmoor Trim since seeing it on a Car restations show as was growing up (maybe Car SOS) and when we got into are project I knew you guys were who I really wanted to work with.
Why Harris Tweed from Exmoor Trim?
The interior trim Is such a personal thing to and vehicle but we just loved it we didn’t have a customer picking what they wanted so we could pick exactly what would go for.
How are the Exmoor Trim Harris Tweed Premium Puma seats compared to the originals?
They are so much better in every way...
What are your plans for the rest of the vehicle as an overlander?
We have built a 2 birth Overlander its going to have a seating area at the rear that converts in to a double bed. This seating area benefits from are Panoramic window. This a hatch at the rear that opens up all of the rear of the Camper. Making it a Bed with a view when the bed is Deployed.
We are also have designed a fully electrical system meaning that there is no need for LPG. This system is from Victron. This system can be monitored from anywhere in the world.
What are your top overlanding tips?
Just get out and have fun!
What are your essential overlanding modification?
I think that you can go overlanding with very little modifications but if you want more comfort then there is loads that can be done. For example we have added Air suspension for ride comfort as well as a self-levelling system.
Give us an idea of something you learnt while producing this unique land rover?
I have learn so much it hard to pick one thing.
Where would be your top destination of travel in the overland be?
I want to go to Mongolia.
3 things you love about Land Rovers?
Not quite sure I can answer this as I have just taken one apart into as many bits as I can and then put them all because together and I both Love them very deeply and Hate them so much as well.
